About 15 years ago I went to see a specialist about a small bald patch on the back of my head. He diagnosed it as Alopecia Areata, gave me a tube of cream, explained the condition to me and said that nothing could really be done, but that the hair would probably grow back over time. The patch hung around for a month or so and eventually disappeared, to my relief.

Then, in early 2007, I participated in a charity shave in aid of CANSA and, after my hair was shaved, noticed 2 small bald spots at the back of my head again. Knowing what the specialist originally told me, I ignored them and grew the rest of my hair back. I wore my hair quite long but was aware that the bald patches were not disappearing. I also became aware of more patches, but managed to keep them covered.

Eventually in March 2008 I shaved my hair really short and when I looked in the mirror I was astounded to see a myriad of hairless patches all over the back of my head, as well as on the top, to the right. For the next couple of months I watched as the patches eventually joined up and left me with over 50% of my head bald.

My sister-in-law suggested I consult Dr Alexander, as she knew of someone who he had success with. I came to Dr Alexander as a last resort, not expecting him to really be able to help. To my astonishment, he was very positive and suggested that we start immediately with a course of cortisone injections into the affected areas.

As I had nothing (except my remaining hair) to lose, I agreed. It was tough, as there were so many areas to cover, but within 6 weeks we started to see results – a fine layer of hair appearing on the top and side of my head. The course of injections ended, and still some more re-growth took place.

The results were encouraging – not complete coverage, but what had grown back did not fall out again.

Since that day in September 2008 I have had 3 courses of injections, and almost total re-growth. We are now concentrating on the last patch near the bottom of my hairline at the back.

I have found that the very professional manner of Dr Alexander and the scientific method, photographs and consultation has been very reassuring.

He has made no false promises or outrageous claims, but the results have spoken for themselves.
